Clearing & Demolition
Clearing
Having started as a small residential clearing outfit back in 1970, Cleland has the experience and ability to cost-effectively clear any sized site. Furthermore, several team members have undergone the Timber Operations Professional Program through Clemson University, giving them the latest information on timber harvesting, safety, and environmental regulations.
Demolition
Cleland Site Prep has the equipment, trucks, and manpower to seamlessly demolish any sized project. Loaders, backhoes, and skid steer machines provide plenty of muscle to bring down virtually any structure, whether vertical or horizontal. In addition, Cleland's demolition team is a permitted recycler dedicated to being cost-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Earthwork
Excavation Services
With 50 years of experience, Cleland has the best knowledge, equipment, and resources to complete even the toughest excavation project. We handle everything from different types of soil to water management and we have a deep understanding of OSHA regulations that are essential to excavation in the Lowcountry area.
Fill Dirt
Filling dirt in a construction site seems simple, but it is extremely important because the other materials used on the site rely on the dirt used. Areas that are prone to flooding need their site raised to prevent pooling of water on the property, which Cleland has years of experience completing. We have access to some of the best quality dirt in the Lowcountry area that we deliver to our customer’s sites by the truckload.
GPS 3D Modeling and Machine Control
At Cleland, we want to always provide the best experience and quality of every job we complete for our customers. That is why we have invested in GPS system technologies, which allows us to more accurately manage a project’s lifecycle during the pre-construction and construction phases. The 3D models created for a site enables us to precisely estimate the material quantities needed, which provides our customers with a much more accurate quote on materials.
Grading
Grading a site’s land is something Cleland has been providing our customers from the very beginning of our company in 1970. Grading land is essential for the development of the site and helping with long-term stormwater runoff. We have all the equipment needed to complete the grading of any commercial or residential project no matter the size.
Hauling
Our fleet of dump trucks and tractor-trailer trucks get the job done for our customers every time. They are regularly maintained and used to haul dirt, topsoil, debris, and rock at constructions sites. The benefit of having our own band of hauling trucks is that we don’t have to rely on the availability of other company’s trucks to get the job done for our customers—we do it ourselves and at the pace we need for the project schedule!
Subgrade Reinforcement Services
In Lowcountry, especially near wetland areas, there are soft subgrades and weak soils are typical. When building roadways, it is important to create a stable foundation that is reliable so it can withstand the daily traffic. At Cleland Site Prep, we economically use geotextile fabrics with an aggregate or granular sub-base to create a stable platform for the road that can handle any kind of load that drives on it without causing stress to the base. Designing a road like this reduces the material and labor costs, and creates a road that has a long service life.
Storm Drainage
Retention Ponds
In Lowcountry South Carolina and Georgia, retention ponds are essential to help with the flooding issues during heavy rainstorms. At Cleland, we design retention ponds based on the civil engineer’s requirements for slope and depth. In addition, retention ponds also aide in removing pollutants from the water before they reach the main water supply.
Storm Drains and Retention Systems
Most storm drainage systems are sewers that use gravity to transfer untreated stormwater into rivers or streams. Storm drainage systems use ditches, catch basins, culverts, pipes, and precast structures to work together to accomplish this task. Our team of experts has over 50 years of experience creating storm drainage systems and are considered a leading expert in the Lowcountry area.
Underground Stormwater Storage Systems
On-site, underground stormwater storage systems capture and store stormwater collected from areas such as parking lots and large business complexes. An underground stormwater storage system is a successful addition to a development’s overall stormwater management plan. Cleland Site Prep, Inc. has been a leader in building underground stormwater storage systems in the Lowcountry areas of South Carolina and Georgia for years.
Utilities
Pump Stations
A pump or lift station receives gravity flowing sewage into a wet well. Through a pumping action, it lifts and deposits the sewage into an adjoining manhole with a much higher invert. Cleland has built numerous pump stations, with wet wells up to 40 feet deep, for commercial, residential, and municipal projects.
Sanitary Sewage System
Cleland has specialized in-house crews that can handle the pre-construction, installation, testing, and completion of sanitary sewer systems for both commercial and large residential projects. Over the past thirty years, the firm has installed countless sewage systems, including force, gravity and vacuum types throughout coastal South Carolina and Georgia.
Water Systems
For 50 years, Cleland has completed many clean water projects including main laying, service repair and refurbishment, main replacement, reservoir construction and maintenance, and pipeline refurbishments.
Paving and Concrete
Asphalt Paving
Preparing a site for asphalt paving requires tremendous attention to detail; the surface must be as durable and maintenance-free as possible. Cleland has fine-grading crews specifically trained to shape and compact the sub-surface of select fill dirt and aggregate base course, readying it for the hot-mix asphalt.
Curb and Gutter
For 50 years, Cleland has poured enough concrete curb to stretch from Hilton Head, SC to Jacksonville, FL. This experience, coupled with industry-leading equipment and knowledgeable concrete-specific crews, makes Cleland capable of providing any type or amount of concrete curbing.
Sidewalks
Because finishing concrete for sidewalks is an art, Cleland employs dedicated crews to maximize efficiency and minimize errors. Having the ability to self-perform all concrete work allows for more flexibility in scheduling for clients.
Pavement Markings
Pavement indicator lines and proper signage help to control traffic as well as add the finishing touch to any paved project. Cleland's crews are knowledgeable of ADA and local regulations, giving them the ability to provide the striping and signage for any project.
Pervious Paving
Pervious paving, in its many forms, effectively captures storm water and allows it to seep into the ground. This makes it a viable and valuable means of reducing runoff and recharging groundwater. Cleland self-performs the construction of these eco-friendly systems, which reduces the need for storm water management devices.
Culvert Crossings and Precast Arches
Small streams and creeks zigzag the Lowcountry landscape. The easiest and most cost-effective way to drive safely across such an obstacle, while protecting the stream, is to install a culvert pipe or a precast concrete arch. Cleland Site Prep installs these buried bridge systems, mimicking the design methods used in construction of the historic Roman aqueducts.
Green Building
Cleland Site Prep has provided the Lowcountry with quality site preparation for over three generations, and understands the importance of protecting the area's irreplaceable natural resources with environmentally-friendly construction methods. Furthermore, Cleland's team recognizes that sustainable construction practices can benefit client budgets, both in short-term building cost and long-term operating cost.
From the way we routinely recycle our materials and strive to reduce construction waste, to the use of environmentally-friendly construction techniques, Cleland is prepared to offer clients with affordable green building solutions, such as:
